WordPress plugin to add Google’s +1 to your site

Google opened today the +1 button for all the web. Since, of course, this will affect search results, you need to include the +1 button in your site as soon as possible. In this post you will find a plugin for WordPress to include the +1 for posts and pages and a widget to include a +1 button to the base url of your site.

Google has the following to say about how +1 button will affect search:

+1 helps people discover relevant content—a website, a Google search result, or an ad—from the people they already know and trust. Adding the +1 button to your pages lets users recommend your content, knowing that their friends and contacts will see their recommendation when it’s most relevant—in the context of Google search results.

When a signed-in Google user is searching, your Google search result snippet may be annotated with the names of the user’s connections who’ve +1’d your page. If none of a user’s connections has +1’d your page, your snippet may display the aggregate number of +1’s your page has received.

You can download it and use it for free, because as any other WordPress plugin, it is open source. Here’s a view of the settings page of the plugin and the widget settings:

The plugin will output the +1 buttons for your entries and pages and you can choose the placement: before or after the entry content, aligned towards right, left or without any alignment at all.
In addition, you have a widget to use in any sidebar. In this case, the url to +1 will be the base url of your site, for example http://www.example.com/. On the other side, the +1 button for entries and pages will +1 the url of the entry or page, for example http://www.example.com/your-entry/. It works in WordPress 3.1.x and even in WP3.2 beta 2.
